ABOUT_
Big Walnut Baseball and Softball Families,

Our Board of Directors met earlier this week to finalize our plans for the 2020 season and we are excited to share those with you.

First and foremost, we want to thank all of you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time, and we hope everyone has been staying safe and healthy.  We all want to start a return to normal and we are committed to providing an opportunity for a piece of that normalcy, for all of our families.  In doing so, there will be new safety policies and procedures to implement, that have created some hurdles we still have to clear.  Please understand that all of the timelines below can change on a days notice, but it is our intention to do whatever we are able to bring baseball & softball back this summer.

None of these decisions were easy to make and all of them have been thoroughly thought through by our board, with the help and advice from outside resources.  There are different challenges for each program we offer and after much discussion, we feel the following plan will allow us to safely and effectively return to play.

We will be opening registration back up for the upcoming season and while it will stay open through June, we ask that you register as soon as possible so we can get a jump start on working through the day to day scheduling.

2020 Season tentative timeline (Pre-k - 6th Grade)*
5/26: Travel Baseball & Softball seasons will resume practices with games shortly after.  Travel coaches will be reaching out to teams with more information.
7/13: Rec practices will begin on weekdays and weekends.
7/23 to 7/26: Eagle Classic Travel Baseball Tournament.
8/1 or 8/2: Rec Games will begin
9/26 or 9/27: Last Regular Season Rec games (end of season for Pre-k and Kindergarten teams)
10/3 or 10/4: End of season tournament for 1st-6th grade Rec teams

*We are still working on options with surrounding leagues for the middle school and high school age groups.

With over 500 players (60+ Teams) in our rec league and around 100 players (9 Teams) in our travel program we have to be very careful about how we start opening up our facilities.  By starting the season off with just our travel teams continuing their seasons, this will allow us to effectively implement the new safety policies and procedures.  We will be able to spread out practice times to ensure social distancing is possible and with only a portion of the games on our home fields it will give us the time needed to implement new game day procedures.

If you have played within our organization before, you know that the fields, parking and surrounding areas are filled to max capacity. With the new restrictions in place, we will need to be very cautions to make better accommodations to avoid overcrowding. Things may look a little different this year but the purpose of why we are there remains the same, to have fun and play ball!

With the new timelines we understand that conflicts with vacations and possibly fall spots is inevitable. We do our best to work with families to be as accommodating as possible, while understanding that each family may have other obligations as well.

As the new normal is being figured and it seems to change little by little daily. Please know that we will be staying up to date on the requirements and best practices to keep your child safe while participating. As we get closer to the start of rec baseball/softball, we will be communicating more about the logistics and requirements that will be in effect for the upcoming season.

Again, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through what we feel is the safest and best option to return to play.

If you are already registered for the season and the new timeline does not work for your schedule please email [email protected] and we can work out refund options or transferring the payments to another sport under the BWYSO umbrella.

Thanks You,
BWYSO Baseball & Softball
